Throughout the build, we will be running a number of technical open days for industry professionals interested in learning more about specific heritage restoration techniques. Please check back here for dates and information about how to book onto these sessions as they come up throughout 2019.
Conservation & stonework restoration technical day - Thursday 5th December 2019
Spend the morning on site with Arcadis, our Conservation Consultants, and Stone Central (North West) Ltd demonstrating the repairs & expertise involved in restoring the stone facade of The Old Library.
This is another great learning & professional development opportunity aimed at those studying, working in industry or looking to gain more experience of a live building site & heritage restoration project.

Tiling technical day - Friday 18th October 2019
Join us for a day with Darwen Terracotta Ltd who are helping to restore the beautiful, historic tiles at The Old Library. This day long session will focus on the surveying & recreation of the building's original tiles, demonstrating the expertise involved with producing & installing tiles in a way that is sympathetic to the original methods and materials.
This is a fantastic learning opportunity, aimed at industry professionals and those looking to develop their knowledge of specific heritage, restoration and construction techniques. Windows & Glazing technical day - Weds 18th September 2019
Our next technical day is on Wednesday 18th September, hosted by REA Metal Windows who are replacing & refurbishing the window casings at The Old Library to retain the building's historic integrity. The technical day will be an opportunity to observe traditional building techniques through a number of activities and tasks focusing on design, materials used, castings and application to gain skills and insight into this technical operation. This session is aimed at industry professionals and those looking to develop their knowledge of specific heritage, restoration and construction techniques.

2019 Bursary placements
Thanks to National Lottery Players & the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we're thrilled to be able to offer two paid bursary placements during the construction phase of The Old Library project.
Our construction team at H. H. Smith Ltd have put together two twenty-week placements, beginning in July & August 2019, which will allow the successful candidates to gain a range of skills & experience in construction & heritage restoration.
